OAA Executives and Year Group Reps Get Together

The OAA President, Akora Prof Ernest Aryeetey , hosted the OAA Executives and Year Group reps to an End of Year Get Together yesterday at his VC Lodge at Legon. Prominent Akoras gave speeches at the function. The gists of the various speeches are summarized below:
1. Akora KB Asante: We have failed the new generation by our actions and omissions. We must reawaken ourselves to change our attitude for a better Ghana.
2. Akora Prof Aryeetey: He accepts the mantle as the new OAA President with all humility. We should not expect miracles overnight. Weak educational base at the lower level adversely affects standards at the tertiary level and above. By implication the economy and national development suffer. All hands must be on deck to hold Motown aloft.
3. Akora E Okoh , Chair Board of Governors: Achimotans talk big but contribute virtually nothing or little. OAA must coordinate the efforts of the various Year Groups for maximum effect instead of each group dissipating efforts on insignificant projects.
4. Akora Mrs Brew-Greaves, past Headmistress- Headmasters and mistresses face a lot of challenges from the GES whose financial contribution on the contrary is negligible. OAA, Year Groups and PTA should take up the mantle to support the School. To date, only 5 year groups have fully paid up their School Trust Endowment Fund.
5. Akora Kobina Quansah, member Board of Governors: Trust Endowment Funds are the main means of maintaining schools the world over. We must all endeavour to contribute towards it.
6. Akora Bea Adom, current headmistress- Challenges facing the school are real, including pressure from GES. Motivations to students should be extended to tutors as well. Efforts are being made to lift educational standards. We must therefore not throw our hands up in despair. Students strength stands at about 3000, three times what it used to be, with the same facilities and resources. We must continue to support our alma mater.
