Achimota school launches 2016 Kings, Queens College Games

The annual competition is expected to draw about 200 students athletes battling for honours in the four-day event.

The disciplines include, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Hockey and Scrabble in both male and female categories.

Achimota school, which is hosting the games, held a cultural durbar to herald the official opening of the competition to officially welcome the visiting schools from Nigeria.

The Headmistress of Achimota Senior High School, Mrs. Beatrice Tsotso Adom, said the event is tailored to give students of the sister schools an opportunity to learn from each other in a healthy competition outside the classroom environment and to strengthen the unique bond between the two West African countries.

She admonished the staff and students, as well as the management of both schools to take time to share ideas that will further enrich the academic and other activities in the sister schools.

‘‘Let the socialization that would come alongside the games be a meaningful one, infused with the potential to open frontiers of friendship and social relationships. May this year’s event be devoid of any form of acrimony and rancor’’. She added

The headmistress said winners of the games must be gracious in their celebration and the losers to take everything in their stride, since the essence of the games is unity, and tasked the officials to ensure fair officiating.

The Greater Accra Regional Educational Director, Peter Attifuah, commended the organisers for the initiative and urged the schools to come together and learn from each other to build an environment of friendship.

He urged the athletes to be disciplined and have a sense of togetherness.

The Director of Queens College, Dr. Lami Amodu Fnim thanked Achimota School for packaging this year games.
