Highlights- OAA AGM 2019

The Annual General Meeting 2019 of the OAA took place at Aggrey Chapel on Sunday 7th April, 2019. It was very well attended. The meeting accepted the audited accounts of the OAA for the period 2012-2017. It also accepted the audited accounts of the Achimota School Endowment Trust Fund.

The meeting authorized the Executive Committee to negotiate new fees with the auditors. The monthly dues to be paid by Akoras was increased from GHC 5 to GHC10 with effect from 1st January 2020.

The AGM also approved a proposal from the Executive Committee for streamlining arrangements for Year Groups to undertake specific projects to mark major milestones or anniversaries. The most significant changes will be the organization of the Presidential Ball by those celebrating 30 years of leaving school in collaboration with the Executive Committee. Also important is the placement of responsibility for organizing a legacy project in the hands of those celebrating 40 years of leaving school. For the next 9 years this will be done in partnership with those celebrating 50 years. Details of that partnership will be worked out later.

The meeting finally discussed the proposals for administering Achimota School lands. The arrangements to be presented to the School Board include proposals for the preparation of a master plan for Achimota School and a related land use plan. The plan will be used to determine what every single plot of land can be used for, either by the school or by third parties in occupation of the land. Following the consent granted by the President of the Republic, the School Board is authorized to enter into negotiations with third parties to ensure the proper use of Achimota School land and receive compensation for such use where it can be shown to be in the interest of the School. It was made clear that the School would retain ownership of the land at all times, granting use rights to various entities over defined periods. The AGM overwhelmingly endorsed the proposal. All in all it was a very successful meeting.

I would like to thank all Akoras who made time to attend the meeting.
